Currently, glycoprotein and carbohydrate-based drugs and therapeutics represent a greater than $20 billion market (1-4).<\/p>\n<p>A very important set of therapeutic glycoproteins are <a title=\"Rapid PNGase F\" href=\"https:\/\/www.neb-online.de\/en\/glycobiology\/rapid-pngase-f\/\">recombinant monoclonal antibodies<\/a> (rMAbs). They can effectively inhibit TNF-\u03b1 and thus control the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis and other autoimmune diseases. Oncological applications include the use of rMAbs to target malignant cells to prevent tumor proliferation.<\/p>\n<p>Recent progress in chemical synthesis and bioengineering resulted in the development of many carbohydrate-based vaccines, some of which also have applications in cancer treatment. Finally, it must be mentioned that one of the oldest drug agents to date is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.neb-online.de\/shop\/neb_en_product.php?productnumbers=P0735@;P0736@;P0737@\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Heparin<\/a>, a proteoglycan that is still widely used to successfully treat a broad range of conditions.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_separator][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<em>References<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>1.
